Cofoco SPIS – Rønne
The ever inventive Cofoco team had a fun staycation concept lined up for July where a vast part of Copenhageners are enjoying their summer holidays (elsewhere).
Instead of their normal menus – Cofoco launched “SPIS”. Each Cofoco restaurant represented a destination in Europe and one could buy a couple of hours in cities as Rome, Nice and Amsterdam. The menu was set and you had to pay when booking. Budget airline ticketing style, the ticket’s price ranging from 95 DKK – 295 DKK for a meal was based on demand for the time slot where one wanted to dine. Furthermore, each day a number of last minutes seats where sold if available.
The ticketing system had a bit of starting problems, but eventually SPIS took off and I managed to secure tickets for Rønne (in Denmark).
Egg from Svaneke served with ryebread from Nyker, radish crudité, smoked mackerel, chives and mayo
A fresh summer dish. I would have prefered a more “runny” egg, but overall the course was welltasting.
Rooster toast with potato puree from Arnager, served with applevinegar vinaigrette and sweet corn
Rather rustic. The potato pureee was smooth and buttery. A heavy dish for before the main.
Pig from Bornholm with pea puree served with grain, split peas and blue cheese
The blue cheese was very mild and I thought the course lacked saltyness. A more penetrating blue cheese sauce would have done the trick for me.
Icecream from Bornholm with blueberries, honey and blueberry consommé
The icecream did not taste of anything. It was made of cream, but the lovely heaviness of creambased ice cream did not come through. The best part of the dessert was actually the fresh blueberries.
Bülow liquorice
Despite the criticism it was actually a nice meal – and fantastic value for money. Props to Cofoco for readjusting their business to summer (holiday) mode in a new, enjoyable and budgetfriendly way.
